In Miss McAllister’s numeracy class, the children have been exploring 2-D shapes by identifying describing their properties, with a special focus on symmetry. Today, they investigated a range of shapes to find the vertical, horizontal and diagonal lines of symmetry. Working together, the class cut and folded shapes sharing their ideas and observations to check which shapes had symmetrical properties. This hands on activity encouraged lots of discussion, teamwork and careful reasoning, helping the children to deepen their understanding of 2D shape properties.
