As part of our Ancient Egypt topic, Primary 5 pupils carried out a fascinating mummification experiment. The children investigated how the ancient Egyptians preserved bodies by creating their own "mummified" apples using a mixture of salt and bicarbonate of soda, similar to the natron used thousands of years ago.
Over the course of several days, the pupils carefully observed and recorded the changes that took place. They were amazed to see the apples become smaller, drier and wrinkled as the moisture was removed.
During ICT this week, we plan to make an instructional book to showcase our step by step learning from the experiment!
This hands-on investigation helped the children develop their scientific observation skills while bringing their learning about Ancient Egypt to life. Well done to all of our budding archaeologists and scientists for their excellent work! 🏺🍎✨
