Fresh Ideas in P3a

6th May 2026

The boys and girls in Miss Cullen's class enjoyed another wonderful World Around Us Wednesday full of practical activities and connected learning. This week we looked at how we store food to keep it fresh.

We learned about different ways to keep food safe and tasty for longer, including using fridges, freezers and cupboards. We then sorted food according to how it is stored on a Categorising Frame. We explored and tasted fresh, tinned and dried fruit.
We used a 1kg weight and investigated how many apples, potatoes and even shoes make a kilogram. We also made delicious pancakes together. Everyone enjoyed helping to measure and mix the ingredients carefully. Afterwards, we used our experience to write a procedure explaining how to make pancakes.

The day ended with a fun PE lesson finished off with a tasty treat of pancakes and fruit.
