P3 Paired Reading Programme
As part of our World Book Day celebrations, our P3 pupils were delighted to launch their Paired Reading Programme with their parents. It was wonderful to welcome families into the school to share in this special reading experience.
Paired Reading involves a child reading alongside a parent, working together to enjoy a book. The adult provides support, encouragement and guidance, helping the child with tricky words while also allowing them the opportunity to read independently and build confidence.
Paired Reading has many important benefits for children, including improved reading fluency and accuracy through regular practice, increased confidence when reading aloud, stronger comprehension skills as children talk about the story and new vocabulary, a positive home/school partnership with parents actively involved in their child’s learning, and a greater enjoyment of reading, as children share books with someone special.
A big thank you to all the parents who joined us and helped make the launch of our Paired Reading Programme so special.
A special thank you to Laura Gallagher from Families Connect for joining us and for her kind donation of new books and bags for our programme.
