Holy Child Primary School, Derry

Numeracy

At Holy Child Primary School, we see mathematics as a vital tool for everyday life. Through developing our children’s ability to calculate, to reason and to solve problems, mathematics teaches them how to make sense of the world around them. It enables children to understand and appreciate relationships and patterns in both number and space in their lives.

From the early stages onwards, children at Holy Child experience success in mathematics and develop the confidence to take risks, ask questions and explore alternative solutions without fear of being wrong. They enjoy exploring and applying mathematical concepts. At Holy Child we see the importance of Activity Based Numeracy Learning. All primaries take part in Activity Based Learning each week.  At all stages, an emphasis on collaborative learning will encourage children to reason logically and creatively through discussion of mathematical ideas and concepts.
