Holy Child Primary School, Derry

Notices for week beginning Monday September 4th 2017

3rd Sep 2017

We are delighted to have the new school year up and running. The staff and children all in good form and well settled already! Lots of happy looking parents too dropping them off to school - can't think why!!

This year, I will be posting the school notices on the website each Sunday. Many parents have not been able to see notices as they do not participate in social media and it seems pointless to do both… Our website has a great deal of useful information so please do check in each Sunday. I will post the lunchtime menus as soon as possible and tomorrow I will post the new breakfast club price list. The school calendar will also be updated before mid week.

The children are all looking extremely smart! The uniforms are so immaculate and many thanks for all the “flat, black sensible shoes” as the children will tell you is my mantra!!! I have set them the challenge of looking this smart all year! Could I ask all parents to ensure that their names are written somewhere on all uniform items but especially on jumpers/cardigans as they tend to take them off at playtimes and then no-one can identify who owns what!

Regarding PE kit, we are again taking orders for the school kit of tee shirt and shorts in a kit bag all with school logo. The price has gone up but the school will subsidise the cost in order to keep the price at £10 for all. Should you not wish to buy the school kit please ensure they bring a plain tee shirt and shorts – no football shirts/ band tee shirts etc as the other children rightly see this as unfair when they wear the uniform.

Kids Club has started again from 3-5pm and the cost remains at £3 for one child and £2 pounds if there is more than one child staying from the same family. We hope to begin the rest of our extra- curricular programme in the week beginning September 18th. We will update on this each Sunday through the notices.

The children are welcome to school anytime from 8.15am. Indeed we would encourage all our children to come early and spend some time socialising before the hard work begins at 9! P3-P7 can stay on the playground, attend Breakfast Club or go to the ICT suite. Teachers collect the children just before 9am so that class can begin promptly at 9am.

The main method of keeping in contact with parents remains through text message. This system only allows the message to be delivered to one phone. Our system tells us when delivery had failed and we are currently chasing up new contact numbers for those that failed this week. Please help us to keep in touch by giving any change of mobile number into the school office as quickly as we can.

Finally, we are delighted that our final attendance statistic last year for the school overall was 94.9%, the highest on record! This puts Holy Child PS in line with the average for all primary schools in Northern Ireland. We are thrilled with this as it sends out such a clear message about how much we value education in Creggan.
